GWRRA Texas Chapter W
Meaningful Practice

During the past three years, I have presented several meaningful practices for Chapter W. The idea was to provide and atmosphere wherein any of us could increase our skills in an entirely controlled range area at the pace that is comfortable-riding at each one’s comfort level.

The skills that are most often needed in every day riding are - braking, swerving and cornering. The range exercises used have been derived from several established and proven programs. At the forefront of these programs is the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and exercises taken form both the MRC:RSS (Basic Course) and the ERC (Advanced Course).

BRAKING/STOPPING a motorcycle properly is of the utmost importance to us all. We NEVER get good enough. We also probably never PRACTICE it enough.

SWERVING the motorcycle is also a very important maneuver to each of us and again, we NEVER get good enough. We also probably never PRACTICE it enough.

CORNERING is one maneuver we get to use quite frequently, however we all need to get better.

Included in the meaningful practice session are components from the GWRRA TOP GUN competition. Emphasis is put on BRAKING, SWERVING and CORNERING while little is done toward slow riding in a straight line. That is an exercise one can do at almost any time and in many places.

There is no time allotted for classroom work. We do, however, discuss thoroughly each and every exercise prior to practicing it is well as watching a demonstration ride which shows the desired path of travel, and appropriate speed and the correct manner in which the exercise should be accomplished.

Remember,
IF YOU AIN’T HAVIN’ FUN, YOU AIN’T DOIN’ IT RIGHT!
